Requirements

EtchMind

EtchMind 1.1.18 beta or stable with local Stream Deck protocol 1.

Stream Deck

Stream Deck 7.1 or newer on Windows 10 or Windows 11, with a device or Stream Deck Mobile keypad.

Beta limitation: this package does not include prebuilt device profiles. Add the generic EtchMind Command action to your own profile and choose each semantic command in the Property Inspector. Stream Deck+ dials are not supported yet.

Install the plugin

  1. Install or update to EtchMind 1.1.18 stable (or beta 1.1.18). The beta channel is under Settings → License & Updates.
  2. Install Stream Deck 7.1 or newer and open the Stream Deck application.
  3. Use the download button above, then open the downloaded .streamDeckPlugin file.
  4. Approve the installation prompt. The plugin appears as EtchMind in the Stream Deck action list.
  5. Drag EtchMind Command onto a key and select a command, or add Open EtchMind.

To verify a download manually, run Get-FileHash .\EtchMind_Stream_Deck_0.1.0_beta.streamDeckPlugin -Algorithm SHA256 in PowerShell and compare it with the SHA-256 above.

Connect to EtchMind

  1. Open EtchMind and go to Settings → Shortcuts → Stream Deck (Beta).
  2. Turn on Enable Stream Deck control. It is off by default.
  3. Pairing happens automatically for the current Windows user. There is no port, code, password, or file path to enter.
  4. Open the Study card, topic, or reader required by a command. Keys show disconnected or unavailable feedback when a command cannot run.

Stream Deck actions use permanent semantic command IDs, not simulated keystrokes. Changing EtchMind keyboard shortcuts does not change configured Stream Deck buttons.

Update

  1. Check this permanent setup page for the current beta plugin version and compatibility information.
  2. Download the newer versioned package and confirm its published SHA-256.
  3. Open the package and approve replacing/updating the existing EtchMind plugin.
  4. If keys remain disconnected, update EtchMind too, then press Reconnect in EtchMind Settings.

Your configured actions keep the frozen EtchMind plugin/action IDs across beta updates.

Disable or uninstall

  1. In EtchMind, turn off Enable Stream Deck control. This stops the local listener and removes its discovery record.
  2. In the Stream Deck application, open its plugin management view, find EtchMind, and choose Uninstall.
  3. Remove any EtchMind actions from profiles if Stream Deck does not remove them automatically.

Uninstalling the plugin cannot delete or change the EtchMind application, collection, cards, sources, media, or backups.

What the local integration does

When you explicitly enable it, EtchMind listens only on 127.0.0.1 and creates a random, short-lived credential in its user-scoped app-data directory. The plugin reads that small discovery record, authenticates locally, and sends only allowlisted protocol-1 command IDs. Reconnect, Reset pairing, or restarting EtchMind rotates the credential.

  • No LAN listener, cloud relay, account, or telemetry.
  • The plugin does not read or write the collection database or media.
  • No arbitrary script, SQL, shell command, argument, or filesystem path can be sent.
  • Logs contain command IDs and bounded status labels, never pairing credentials, collection content, raw handler errors, or private file paths.
  • The bridge remains stopped when the setting is off.

Troubleshooting

EtchMind is closed

Press an Open EtchMind action or start EtchMind normally. If Open cannot find it, reinstall EtchMind in its normal supported installer location.

Authentication failed

Open EtchMind Settings → Shortcuts → Stream Deck, choose Reset pairing, then Reconnect. No credential needs to be copied.

Version mismatch

Install EtchMind 1.1.18 stable or beta and plugin 0.1.0. Incompatible protocols are rejected; the plugin never falls back to hotkeys.

Connection was lost

Confirm the Stream Deck control switch is still on, press Reconnect, then restart either application if needed. Reconnection is automatic when EtchMind returns.

A key says unavailable

Open the required Study card/topic or reader. Review grades require a revealed genuine-review card; unavailable commands intentionally do nothing.

Still stuck?
